Background
The United Equipment Group in Qatar are currently carrying out major construction works to build the Doha Metro leading up to the 2022 World Cup. They are building a city-wide underground metro system to provide its citizens with a state of the art transit system. The project is due to be delivered in time to provide a world-class service for the influx of football tourists during 2022.
The Overall Objective
As part of the works, The United Equipment Group carried out a series of boring underground using large Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM’s). As a result, water generated from the work is pumped above ground to one of 3 Siltbuster systems across the city.
The water was polluted with slow settling solids made up of calcium carbonate, due to the limestone geology. In addition, the water is highly alkaline which requires treatment before discharge.
Solution
Siltbuster provided The United Equipment Group with a number of systems to remove the coarse solids. The pH was also reduced by the controlled introduction of Carbon Dioxide.
The Siltbuster system consistently reduces the Total Suspended Solids (TSS) to below 5mg/L whilst neutralising the pH to 7 neutral for safe discharge.
