Background
The LK Group were carrying out remediation works at a site in Bury, Lancashire, England.
The Overall Objective
LK had an issue on-site where they required the removal of suspended solids which was polluting the water during a remediation project. Additionally, free phase hydrocarbon was floating on the surface of the water from historical contamination.
The solids could be settled by gravity alone however a suitable solution was required to remove the silt whilst also removing the hydrocarbon present.
Solution
Siltbuster recommended the use of one of their FB50 Lamella Clarifiers which could remove the solids before the water then moved through a CM400 Oil Water Separator to remove the hydrocarbon.
To ensure any dissolved hydrocarbon was captured and not released into the environment, the treated waters then cascaded over a cartridge filled with granular activated carbon to provide further treatment.
As a result of using the Siltbuster kit, the water could then be safely discharged back into the environment in accordance with the discharge consent.
