Background
A disused borehole required flushing and continued pumping to monitor and assess trace iron levels in the effluent, a monitoring unit was supplied by the client. During the flushing process, mitigation was required to manage the suspended solids at large flowrates.
The Overall Objective
Due to the nature of the discharge point, it was essential to manage the suspended solids in the effluent to prevent polluting to local surface watercourse and to protect the natural environment.
Additionally, the client also required monitoring for pH and TSS on both the feed and discharge of the unit, along with requested additional outputs to be used with their own PLC
Due to the nature of the pumping regime, a high flow capacity was required continuously.
Solution
Siltbuster designed and mobilised a 220m3/hr containerised three-stage flow proportional chemical dosing and solids removal system. The modular solution comprised of one 20ft customised dosing container, one 30m3 dosing tank complete with mixers and five HB50M lamella clarifier units.
Local monitoring was installed on both the inlet and outlet of the system, with additional outputs provided to client for flow, suspended solids, pH as well as requested fault signals reporting to their PLC.
The client also trialled additional aeration for attempted dissolved iron reduction (to no effect), but exemplifies the adaptability of the equipment and advantages of a modular system.
