Background
Thornford WRC is operated by Wessex Water and treats effluent from the nearby village and a large industrial component. An increase in discharge permit had been agreed with the trader, allowing them to expand their capacity at the local site. An increase in treatment capacity was consequently required at the WRC to accommodate the increase in pollutant load.
The Overall Objective
The project required increasing the biological treatment capacity at Thornford WRC to accommodate the increase in trade permit discharge agreed with the local abattoir. In addition, a solution was sought that would allow the additional capacity to be relocated should the trader cease to trade in the future, protecting the investment done by Wessex Water at the site.
Solution
Siltbuster Process Solutions installed 4 MBBR65 Biological Treatment Units to treat the additional BOD and ammonia load. These units were delivered to site pre-fabricated, suitable for relocation in the future should circumstances require it.
