Background
Rock Solid processes Incinerator Bottom Ash (IBA) and recovers the elements. The ash is stock pilled and stored at site so Rock Solid can bring their equipment onto site and process in short space of time. The equipment is then moved to another site where more IBA is processed, whilst the IBA is stock pilled.
The Overall Objective
During rainfall, the water passes over and through the piles of IBA situated outside and has a very high PH and lots of suspended solids. This needs to be treated prior to discharge and the equipment must be able to handle storm events with optimum sized equipment.
Solution
Siltbuster Process Solutions worked with Rock Solid to collect samples and subject them to laboratory-scale performance and analysis. Rainfall modelling was also undertaken to enable the size of the new Balance Tank receiving the surface runoff was an optimum size as well as the new treatment plant.
Once in the Balance Tank, the surface water is pumped into an iHB20R unit where coagulant is added, pH correction by CO2 and polymer is dosed, prior to settling and then discharge to sewer.
The treated water is monitored by our Clarity system, which sends an email and text alert should the suspended solids rise above the pre-programmed point and also if the pH is not within discharge consent levels.
Across the iHB20R there is >97% suspended solids reduction and 40% COD Reduction as well as correcting the pH to within consent limits.
