Background and Overall Objective
As part of a project with United Utilities, our client conducted a piling operation which generated high pH waters laden with non-settleable solids. As the concrete is poured into the pile, the waters are displaced. This water required treatment prior to discharge down a United Utilities Sewer. United Utilities had several requirements for discharge for instance: a pH of between 6 and 10, and a maximum TSS of 1,000mg/L.
Solution
For pH correction and removal of settleable solids, Siltbuster proposed a PM20 unit, which can treat waters up to circa 18m3/hr. This unit has a chamber for automated CO2 dosing which brings the pH down to within the discharge limits. The unit also contains a lamella clarifier which allows for gravity settlement of solids.
The unit was delivered with a magnetic flowmeter on inlet, which allowed for consistent control and monitoring of flow rate to ensure the discharge is under the 10L/s limit. It was also delivered with a walkway allowing the site to visually inspect the waters, both inlet and outlet.
