Siltbuster Shortlisted for Prestigious Welsh Manufacturing Awards

19 Sep 2019

Siltbuster has been shortlisted for this year’s Insider Made in Wales Awards in both the ‘Digital Engineering/Technology’ and ‘Manufacturing Innovation’ categories. The awards, which are now in their eighth year, recognise and acknowledge the accomplishments of Welsh manufacturers.

In the Digital Engineering/Technology category, Siltbuster was selected for the launch of Clarity, an online water quality monitoring and reporting system. Clarity gives Environmental Advisors and Site Managers in the construction industry the ability to remotely monitor environmental performance on a construction site in real time.

Clarity was launched following 18 months of development, numerous field trials and significant customer feedback. It data logs the water being discharged on a site and gives real-time alarm notifications to Site Managers should problems with water quality be detected. The judges were particularly impressed with the way in which the technology has revolutionised water management by removing the need for the continual supervision and monitoring of water treatment systems.

Siltbuster has been also shortlisted for the ‘Manufacturing Innovation’ Award owing to its range of highly effective systems designed to treat highly alkaline concrete washwater. This pollutant, which typically has a pH between 12 and 13 – the equivalent to oven cleaner – arises on most construction sites. If it is released into the natural environment it will damage vegetation and ecosystems, killing fish and other aquatic life. As a result, it must either be taken off site, which is expensive, or be treated.

The judges commended Siltbuster’s pioneering treatment process which innovatively uses carbon dioxide to neutralise washwater. It is safer, easier to control and more cost-effective than any other treatment methods. In addition, the judges applauded Siltbuster’s expanding range of concrete systems that mean it can operate on any sized construction site – large or small.

Richard D. Coulton, General Manager – Construction at Siltbuster, said: “I am thrilled that we are shortlisted for two awards at this year’s Made in Wales Awards. We are up against some exceptional companies and we wish them the best of luck. This acknowledgement really is a testament to everyone who works at Siltbuster and who has helped us create a world-leading centre of excellence for water treatment here in Wales. We we will keep our fingers crossed for a victory on the night.”

The winners of the Insider Made in Wales Awards will be announced during a dinner event on 3rd October 2019 at Cardiff City Hall.
