Background

During construction of a new Aldi superstore near the river Clwyd in Rhuddlan, North Wales, a water treatment system was required to clean dirty surface water runoff before discharge to the surface water course.

 

The Overall Objective

To consistently achieve a discharge criteria of TSS of <60mg/l and pH of between 6 and 9. The challenge here was the removal of small, very slow settling clay particles. The solution was required quickly.

 

Solution

Within a very quick turnaround of 5 days, Siltbuster provided a two stage pre-chemical treatment system capable of treating flow rates of up to 80m³/hr, consisting of one MT8 mix tank and two HB50 settlement tanks.

The flexibility of our modular systems was demonstrated later in the project where there was a requirement to treat a larger volume of water. A second system was simply linked to the existing system on site allowing the combined Siltbuster Solution to treat flows of up to 160m³/hr.
