Background
TMS Ltd were commissioned by the Environment Agency to make modifications to the existing weir at Countess Weir in Exeter as part of a flood alleviation scheme.
The Overall Objective
The defence scheme will run for some four miles along the river and includes erecting flood-proof glass-panels and demount-able barriers, raising the level of footpaths and building up walls and embankments on both sides of the river. The scheme will reduce the flood risk to over 3,000 homes in the area.
As part of the works, a cofferdam was installed leading to the requirement for a suitable treatment system for high TSS (Total suspended solids) and high pH waters prior to discharge.
Solution
Siltbuster installed a 3 Stage Chemical Dosing System able to treat between 20m³ and 30m³/hr whilst neutralising the high pH water and reducing the suspended solids to be below 40mg/l.
